Day 2 Tsodilo hills

Camping [Lunch x 1, Breakfast x 1, Dinner x 1]

Depart to Tsodilo Hills after breakfast it takes about 4 hours from Maun to Tsodilo hills. We stay there for 1 night visiting different hills the flat barren landscape of the western Kalahari, some 50km west of the village of Sepupa on the banks of Panhandle, the sheer quartzite cliff-faces of the four Tsodilo Hills rise majestically above the surrounding savannah. The four hills form a line and are referred to by the San people as “The Male” – the largest hill which reaches a height of 410 meters above the surrounding plain; “The Female” – a smaller hill, about 300m, but has an overall area of almost three times that of The Male; and the next in size of 40m is referred to as “The Child” and lies about 2km away from The Female. Beyond these three is a much smaller unnamed knoll, located 2.2km northwest of The Child, which legend has it was The Male Hill’s first wife who was discarded when he met and married the taller Female Hill.

The enigmatic and spiritual quality of the hills was noted by the famous author Sir Laurens van Der Post in his book “The Lost World of the Kalahari”. It was here that Sir Laurens’s cameras inexplicably jammed, his tape recorders ceased functioning and his party was attacked by swarms of bees three mornings running. When he learned from his guide that two of his party had disturbed the Tsodilo spirits by ignoring long-established protocol and killing a warthog and a steenbok while approaching the sacred hills, Van Der Post buried a note of apology beneath the panel of paintings that now bears his name and it was apparently accepted. We camp for one night.

Day 3: Maun

Lodging [Breakfast x1]

In the morning wake up early around 6.00am for a beautiful sunrise, come back for breakfast and we put down the camp before we depart to Maun at 08:00am. We will arrive in Maun in the afternoon and accommodation is in a lodge for 1 night on bed and breakfast basis. Lunch & dinner own expense. Those who feel like going to town may go to buy their necessities for the Nxai  which will be the following day, while those remaining behind may rest by the pool side, dinner is at (own expense).

DAY 4-5 Nxai Pan National Park

Camping [Lunch x 2, Breakfast x 2, Dinner x 2]

We depart to Nxai National Park via Maun after breakfast. We will do a day trip to Baines baobabs. The Baines Baobab trees derive their name from Thomas Baines (who was a member of the Livingstone Expedition); he painted a group of Baobab trees that became famously known as the ‘Baines Baobabs’ The Baobabs store up to 120 000 liters of water inside the swollen-looking trunks, to ensure survival in the rough, dry conditions that often affect Botswana.  Safaris in this area make the most of the surrounding conditions, and your Botswana safari should not miss the terrific Baines Baobab trees. We camp wild at Nxai for 2 nights enjoying some superb wildlife.’

DAY 6 Kubu Island

After breakfast we depart to Kubu Island in the Makgadikgadi Pans, it is one of the uniquely beautiful features of the pans. This granite outcrop, growing up from the surrounding flat salt pans as one approaches it is about three stories high and a kilometer long. It is situated in the southwest of Sowa Pan. It is a crescent-shaped island with terraced slopes and fossil beaches of wave-rounded pebbles, indicating the prehistoric lake’s erstwhile water levels.

Decorated with a display of ancient, gnarled baobabs on top and surrounded on three sides by a seemingly endless stretch of salt pan, Kubu Island looks like the birthday cake of a wild giant witch. The road is a bit long we drive through vast open land very beautiful to see, it is quite amazing area. We will have a quick lunch on the way and we will arrive at Kubu Island at 16.00pm, we put up camp, here you will have opportunity to walk around and explore the Kubu Island. Kubu Island is an amazing place with lots of Baobabs and beautiful rocks to climb and view the salt pans from above, the sunset is spectacular, you can also walk to the middle of nowhere, by being in the middle of the salt pan.

Day 7: Maun

In the morning wake up early around 6.00am for a beautiful sunrise, come back for breakfast and we put down the camp before we depart to Maun at 08:00am. We will arrive in Maun in the afternoon and accommodation is in a lodge for 1 night on bed and breakfast basis. Lunch & dinner own expense. Those who feel like going to town may go to buy their necessities for the mokoro excursion which will be the following day, while those remaining behind may rest by the pool side, dinner is at (own expense).

Day 8 OKAVANGO DELTA

Camping [Breakfast x 1, Lunch x 1, Dinner x 1]

Wake up have your small bags ready packed for the mokoro overnight, before having breakfast you will only need small amount of luggage for the 1 night that you will be staying in the delta, your big bags will be left in the storage for safe keeping in Mosu Safari Tours office to be collected when you come back from the Okavango delta.

Depart to the Okavango delta here you will meet your local mokoro poler who will serve also as your guide. This activity is conducted by local mokoro community guides but our chef comes along. When we arrive we put up camp under a canopy of trees, have brunch after that is time for siesta you can also take a swim at the delta clear waters tea coffee will be served before you take a walk on the island.

Travelling by mokoro is undeniably the best way to experience the Okavango delta you explore the waterways, and take nature walks where you have the opportunity to track game and get a close-up feel of this unique environment, here bird life is spectacular, on foot you are able to have a much more intense experience of the bush, particularly the flora and fauna that might go unnoticed. Guides are experienced in tracking animals and are able to point out interesting sightings of various types of wildlife, we camp wild in a remote campsite for 1 night.

DAY  9-10 MOREMI XAKANAXA (Third Bridge)

After breakfast we return to mokoro station where we will find our vehicle waiting for us, to transfer you to Moremi game reserve where you will be camping for 2 nights at an exclusive campiste.

Moremi Game Reserve was set-aside in 1963 by the Batswana tribe, the Reserve is rated as Africa’s most beautiful game reserve. It is widely considered as one of the finest wildlife reserve in Africa with a diversity of habitats combining acacia forests and mophane woodlands with floodplains’ and lagoons, our drives will take us to the park’s most beautiful areas such as third bridge, bodumatau and dead tree island where game is plentiful. Sightings include elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, hyena, jackal and many different antelopes including red lechwe and shy sitatunga, a web-footed antelope perfectly adapted to life in the swamps. Wild dog whose numbers are so rapidly dwindling elsewhere are regularly sighted in the Moremi game reserve. Moremi is well known by the great diversity of plant and animal life. The reserve contains within its boundaries approximately twenty percent of the Okavango Delta. We will camp wild for 2 nights enjoying the activities on a day to day basis.

DAY 11-12 MOREMI KHWAI (North Gate)

We depart to Moremi Khwai which is situated in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta after breakfast. It borders the Chobe National Park on the south-western part of the Park. The Okavango Delta is the largest inland river delta in the world and consists of pans, floodplains, lily covered lagoons, grasslands, forests of acacia trees, savannahs and dense Mopane Woodlands. With such a wide variety of vegetation comes diverse spectrum of wild life. Huge herds of impala and tsessebe are found in the area, while in the dry season large herds of buffalo, wildebeest, elephant and zebra flock into the reserve from the Kalahari in search of food and water. The rare sitatunga and lechwe antelope live in the papyrus banks of the waterways. Lions, cheetahs and packs of wild dogs hunt in the open grassland. The reserve is home to over 400 species of birds, including the African Fish Eagle, the Crested Crane and the Sacred Ibis.

Moremi Game Reserve is a wilderness paradise with great game viewing throughout the year. We will camp wild for 2 nights at an exclusive campsite at Khwai north (Moremi Game Reserve) enjoying activities on day to day basis. The magnificent Khwai river is the hub for some of the most outstanding wildlife viewing both on the Moremi and in the Khwai community area.

Day 13-14 Savuti

Camping [breakfast x 2, lunch x 2, dinner x 2]

We depart to Savuti which is part of Chobe national park. It is called Savuti because a certain chief called sauté used to live there with his tribe. Tawny eagles can be seen soaring in the sky as we go. The drive is a bit longer from Moremi to Savuti, however the drive is much enjoyable as you will see lots of birds and animals on the way. The scenery is amazing and very African looking with lots of umbrella thorn, acacia tortilis (Mosu in Setswana which means the name of our company) with giraffe feeding and many more including the most photographed bird lilac breasted roller. It is a national bird of Botswana. You will not resist from taking a picture of it it’s the most beautiful bird in Africa. We arrive in time for lunch; we put up camp at an exclusive campsite and camp wild for 2 nights. After an afternoon tea/coffee we depart for an afternoon game drive to the beautiful Savuti marsh where we see vast herds of zebras and wildebeest and also have an opportunity to see pairs of koori bastards which are the heaviest flying birds. We get back to camp after sunset for a lovely dinner around the camp fire.

An early morning tea/coffee, rusks then depart for game drive along the Savuti channel which is flowing after 30 years. The area looks very beautiful there are lots of tall trees along the river animals like to hang around for shade. We also drive to Savuti marsh where we have an opportunity to track the cheetah because of the vast open grassland, their mostly preferred habitat. Get back for brunch after a long drive, have a shower, launder your clothes and have a siesta. Depending on individuals, sometimes some people update their diaries. 3:30 tea/coffee depart for game drive, which will be our last game drive in Savuti. We will be back from game drive after sun set which will have enjoyed under the baobab tree (adonsonia digitata) an indigenous tree found in Africa, it is nick named the upside down tree, because the branches look like roots when it is dry or doesn’t have leafs

Get back to the camp after a lovely game drive dinner at 20.00pm time of going to bed is determined by the last guest.

DAY 15 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Wake up early to take a beautiful trip to the famous Chobe national park. You will notice when we drive the vegetation changes from time to time. Along the way you get mophane woodland, acacia tortilis (Mosu). Chobe National Park is mostly dominated by the Zimbabwe teak, very good for making furniture. On the way we see lots of animals until we get to Chobe enclave which incorporates five villages. Then we enter the park, we arrive in Kasane a town just outside Chobe national park around lunch. You will be staying in a lodge for 1 nights on bed and breakfast basis (lunches and dinners at own expense).

 After a beautiful drive have brunch  after that is siesta time. 15.00pm we depart for a beautiful sunset boat cruise along the Chobe river. You will see a lot of animals you will also come very close to crocodiles and pods of hippos from the boat at times we see lions from the boat you will also see big herds of buffalos. We get back to the lodge after sunset dinner is at 20.00pm at a local restaurant (own expense). Time of going to bed is determined by the last guest.

DAY 16: VICTORIA FALLS-ZIMBABWE

After breakfast we depart to Zimbabwe, Victoria falls our guides will transfer you to a lodge accommodation in Victoria Falls, you will be staying here for 1 night, on a bed and breakfast basis dinner at (own expense). Victoria Falls is the largest single curtain of falling water on the planet. More than twice the size of Niagara Falls, this Natural Wonder and World Heritage Site has become one of Southern Africa’s top tourist destinations. This spot on the Zambezi River, the natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, has been described as one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world.
The National park has rich biodiversity of fauna like elephant, hippos, giraffes, zebra antelopes and a variety of birds like klipspringers, herons, falcon and waterfowls. The stunning beauty of islands in the river upstream draws the tourists through a boat cruise The Devil’s pool, another prominent tourist attraction, is a fresh water pond where swimming is accessed to the tourists.

The bridge, which was constructed across the second gorge, gives the splendid view of the falling waters. The two islands of Cataract Island and Livingstone Island divide the massive water into number of smaller streams in the upstream of the river. The Victoria Falls can be reached through Victoria Falls town in Zimbabwe as well as Livingstone town in Zambia. These two towns are well accessible through air and roads

Our adventure begins in Victoria Falls besides the fantastic viewing of the falls, the Victoria Falls Bridge and David Livingstone’s Statue, the destination offers a wide range of activities:

Mosu Safari Tours does not pay for nay activities in Victoria Falls and park entry fees. They are not included in the quote.

DAY 17

Wake up and have breakfast; you will then be transferred to Victoria Falls airport for your flight to Johannesburg.
